Apple to Move iPhone Assembly for U.S. Market to India

New Delhi, April 2025
Apple is actively working with its manufacturing partners to shift a portion of iPhone assembly for the U.S. market from China to India. This move reflects Apple’s strategy to reduce reliance on Chinese production and address rising geopolitical risks.

Supply Chain Diversification Gains Momentum

Currently, China manufactures most of Apple’s iPhones. However, ongoing trade tensions and policy uncertainties have pushed the company to diversify its supply chain. As part of this “China+1” strategy, India is emerging as a strong alternative.

Apple already assembles several iPhone models in India through Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron. With the proposed shift, the company will likely increase the number of devices produced in India, especially those meant for export to the United States.

India Strengthens Its Role in Tech Manufacturing

India’s role in Apple’s supply chain has grown rapidly in recent years. This expansion is driven by government incentives, such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, better infrastructure, and a skilled workforce. In fact, Apple now manufactures more than 14% of its iPhones in India. That number is expected to rise significantly as the company implements its new strategy.

Additionally, the move is expected to bring more investment, create new jobs, and boost India’s standing in the global electronics industry.
